Abstract A method for eliminating the residual stress of welded thick modified steel plate features that 2-4 explosive bars (18-122X(10-15)mm) are laid on the isolating pads on welded seams at intervals of 5-15 mm and then are detonated at 3500-4500 m/s to generate pressure waves, which can make the residual stress to be released. Its advantages include simple operation and high effect.
