Abstract The method for site detecting working stress of building structure utilizes the principle of "local stressrelief" and includes the following steps: cutting a shallow groove on locality of the tested member, measuring grooved strain release value, according to the related relationship of groove depth and strain release rate which is established by tests and defining working stress extent and direction of stressed structure member. Said invention can overcome the defects of various measuring methods of existent technology, can accurately measure stress extent and direction produced by building structure under the various loads and actions, and possesses the advantagees of simple and convenient operation, high accuracy and low cost.
