Abstract The present invention relates to a catalyst for converting thioalcohol contained in gas state or liquid state petrochemical material and its preparation method, the active component is 1-6 kinds of oxides selected from Co, Mn, Ni, Cu, Fe and Cr, and said catalyst is a nanometer transition metal oxide catalyst which appears at diffraction peak having no active component in x-ray diffraction pattern and its once accumulative state of effective component is less than 5 nm. The effective component can be directly loaded on the carrier by means of impregnating process. Said catalyst possesses high activity, has no discharge of alkali liquor, has no need of activating agent, and specially is applicable for converting thioalcohol contained in oil product.
