Abstract To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber bundle which is capable of exceedingly preventing the array disorder, deviation, drop-out, etc. of optical fibers. This process for manufacturing the optical fiber bundle consists in arraying the optical fibers 2 so as to hexagonally close-pack the fibers into a packing pipe, bundling the fibers with an evaporatable binder, such as alcohol, then drawing the bundle out of the packing pipe, inserting the bundle into the central part of a glass mantle pipe 3, packing the glass fibers 4 around the same and successively subjecting the fiber bundle to thermal fusing and thermal stretching.
