Abstract An alkaline storage battery having a group of spiral electrodes composed of positive and negative electrode plates (11, 12) spirally wound with a separator interposed therebetween, wherein the separator is composed a first separator (13) placed at the outside of the positive electrode plate (11) and a second separator (14) placed at the inside of the positive elctrode plate (11), and wherein the basis weight of the first separator (13) is determined larger than that of the second separator (14).
