Abstract The Morbillivirus L4 strain has higher hemagglutinin activity than Edmonston strain. The present invention clones hemagglutinin HA gene from Morbillivirus L4 strain, and it is found that the DNA sequence of the gene has four bases in sites Nos. 1080, 1474, 1655 and 1799 different from those in Edmonston strain and that the said two strains have three different amino acids in their hemagglutinin protein amino acid sequences. The Morbillivirus L4 strain hemagglutinin HA gene has high titer hemagglutinin activity after being expressed in recombinant vaccinia virus Tiantan strain carrier and can produce high titer hemagglutination inhibition antibody after being immunized. The present invention may be used in the research and development of Morbillivirus biology, molecular biology and gene engineering morbilli vaccine.
