Abstract An optical pickup is provided which is constructed from a single optical integrated device adapted to write data to, and/or read data from, more than one type of optical disc such as CD, DVD and the like. The optical integrated device includes means for selectively providing as output a result of the light detection by one of a plurality of light detecting elements. This selective output means makes it unnecessary to provide added terminals at the optical integrated device. There is also provided an optical disc drive using the optical pickup.
